The Molecular Microbiology and Immunology Department is seeking a Medical Assistant who will provide support to research staff involved in a large long-term cohort study of HIV infection in gay and bisexual men.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Serve as a Medical Assistant for research participants enrolled in a longitudinal study of HIV infection in homosexual and bi-sexual men.
Take vital signs including: height, weight, temperature, and blood pressure per established protocol.
With training provided by the study team, will also perform frailty measures (hand grip and walk), and other assessments as assigned by Clinic Coordinator.
Will also complete study forms.
Must be meticulous in documentation and in following established protocols for research examinations.
Other duties as assigned.
High School diploma or GED required. Certification/Registration as a Medical Assistant (e.g. CMA, AAMA, RMA, AMT, NAHP) required. If not currently certified/registered, must become certified/ registered within 180 days (6 months) of date of hire. Exam fees will be paid by the department. If a retest is required, associated fees are paid by the employee. Current CPR certification by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross required. Must maintain MA and CPR certification/registration during duration of employment in this position.
Prior research experience preferred.
Prior HIV research experience a plus.
Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications:
Must complete and pass various research and HIPAA classes.
Certification/Registration as a Medical Assistant (e.g. CMA, AAMA, RMA, AMT, NAHP) required. If not currently certified/registered, must become certified/registered within 90 days of date of hire.
Current CPR certification by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross required.
Must maintain MA and CPR certification/registration during duration of employment in this position.
Additional Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Must be meticulous in detail and documentation, and in following established protocols.
Must have excellent communication and organizational skills and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Familiarity with a PC.
Must be comfortable working with bisexual and homosexual men.
Must have the ability to accurately obtain and record detailed information.
Must have a friendly personality and positive attitude as well as the ability to interact with diverse populations.
Must be sensitive to the confidentiality of the study participants.
Work schedule includes two or more evening clinics per week and a least one Saturday a month.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination.
