The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Technician B to join our team in a full time position to work within the division of Allergy, Immunology & Rheumatology. This position will support the department by providing day-to-day support and assistance in ongoing research projects for the Laboratory of Dr. Mark Gorelik, Principal Investigator. Studies performed in the Gorelik Laboratory largely focus on the immunopathogenesis of genetic diseases that lead to allergy and immune dysregulation.
Perform fully planned experiments under the direction of senior lab personnel or conduct independently components of such experiments which may include use of molecular biology techniques such as PCR, Western blot, and immunofluorescence and mouse work.
??? Record and track experimental results accurately, precisely and comprehensively.
??? Preparation of solutions
??? Management of the mouse colony; this will be introduced to you and you do not have to have skill in mouse handling, only interest/willing to do so.
??? Assist with ordering of reagents and laboratory supplies
??? Database management of strains, antibodies, primers, plasmids and all reagents in the lab.
The incumbent will be working in close proximity to a large lab with a group of highly qualified technicians, graduate students and post-docs who will be able to assist you in learning new techniques as well. However, the individual will be expected to be able to quickly learn new techniques and perform them with guidance, but not direct continuous supervision. Thus, this is a somewhat demanding position that involves knowledge all of many of the basic skills needed to perform laboratory work, (ie, pipetting, making solutions and culture media, cell culture, making gels and using basic lab equipment such as centrifuges, PCR machine, pH meter etc), as well as complete proficiency in all the technical theoretical skills (ie mathematical equations of osmolarity, molarity, concentrations, etc) so that one can apply this knowledge to previously unseen protocols. The opportunity to be a first author on publications is possible.
Bachelor???s degree or equivalent in education and work experience.
Primary attributes include dedication, reliability, scientific curiosity and a desire to learn, as well the knowledge of laboratory chemistry concepts such as calculation of concentrations, volumes, dilutions and normalization of concentrations.
Knowledge of performing basic molecular biology techniques such as PCR, western blot, cell culture management, and sample preparation. Experience in flow cytometry is a plus.
