The Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology is seeking a Physician Assistant to conduct medical evaluations, physical examinations, including neurological assessments and lipodystrophy measurements.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Applicant may perform phlebotomy.
Answer participant questions on HIV disease, its treatment, complications associated with it and risk reduction behavior.
Answer any other medical questions asked by participants or staff and/or refer to an appropriate source if they do not know.
Make medical referrals to the community and be knowledgeable about clinics that offer free or low-cost care.
Must have the ability to manage vasovagal reactions and other acute medical situations that may arise until the participant can be transported to the emergency room.
Obtain informed consent per study protocol and medical releases.
Must be meticulous in documentation and in following the protocols for research examinations.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
Certification by the NCCPA or similar national certifying body.
Completion of a CAAHEP certified Physician Assistant program.
Must be licensed as PA in State of Maryland or other state where practicing.
Experience may be considered in lieu of Bachelor's Degree, as permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Experience in the medical management of HIV-infected individuals and excellent knowledge of internal medicine.
Prior research experience preferable.
Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Comprehensive knowledge of HIV infection, routes of transmission, and treatment.
Must be able to answer participant's questions about HIV treatment knowledgably and to educate them on prevention of transmission of HIV and other sexually transmittable diseases.
Excellent knowledge of internal medicine and medical guidelines for routine healthcare screening and prevention of disease.
Excellent knowledge of hepatitis B and C.
The successful candidate will be required to pass Protection of Human Research Subjects and HIPAA certification classes, if not already done.
Must be: a) sensitive to the nature of the work and the confidentiality of study participants, b) flexible and comfortable working with men who have sex with men, and in a diverse office environment, and c) a willing, positive worker, able to take direction.
Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications:
Current CPR certification required.
Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
