The Department of Biology at Portland State University (PSU) invites applicants for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor position in microbiology, whose microbial ecological research program focuses broadly on how abiotic and biotic factors contribute to microbial interactions in natural environments and how microbes help drive global biogeochemical cycles. Areas of research could include microbial symbioses with host organisms, patterns of diversity and microbial activity over environmental gradients such as in the ocean, and microbial contributions to global carbon and energy cycles. Candidates who apply and develop innovative single-cell and systems biology approaches to their research and have field-based program are encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will be expected to have a Ph.D. as well as a strong postdoctoral record, a strong publication record, and maintain an independent and collaborative grant-funded research program. The candidate would participate in the Biology graduate program, and contribute to teaching microbiology and data science curriculum at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
PhD in Biology with a focus in microbiology
Active microbial ecological research program with a strong track record of publications in established journals in the field and demonstrated success in obtaining external funding.
Of special interest are areas of research that include microbial symbioses with host organisms, patterns of diversity and microbial activity over environmental gradients such as in the ocean, or microbial contributions to global carbon and energy cycles.
A strong postdoctoral record, demonstrated experience in STEM education and online teaching, as well as demonstrated interest in and success with working with students from diverse and under represented groups.
