PED-NEONATAL BASIC RESEARCH (IN-PNEB-IUINA)
The Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research conducts basic science and translational research within the Department of Pediatrics at Indiana University School of Medicine. The Wells Center houses more than 200 faculty investigators, staff, and trainees seeking answers to the most pressing questions related to childhood illness.
With the collaboration between scientists and physicians, the center aims to increase knowledge of causes and mechanisms of serious pediatric diseases. Our goal is to develop innovative approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of sick children in Indiana and beyond.
Looking to hire two part-time Research Technicians.
This position will assist the Principal Investigator in conducting research in Hematologic Malignancies and Stem Cell Biology Research Group at the Wells Center for Pediatric Research.
This Research Technician will be involved in the study of molecular mechanism(s) of adhesion/migration and growth control in normal and leukemic stem/progenitor cells, mast cells and erythroid cells.
This research includes small animal handling, small animal surgery, and molecular, cellular biology and biochemistry experiments.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform molecular biology experiments including, but not limited to: genotyping, DNA extraction and purification from animal tissue, PCR, various assays and cell culture.
Maintain mouse colonies. Consists of setting up and maintaining breeder cages, maintaining nonbreeding cages, handling, such as weaning, ear notching, tail snips, dosing, and maintaining colony records.
General laboratory management duties, including order lab supplies, maintain inventory and reagents, assist with the maintenance of regulatory monitoring and paperwork (IACUC, IRB, Biosafety, Laboratory Safety, and Radiation Safety), set-up and maintenance of laboratory equipment, and schedule laboratory meetings and presentations, as needed.
Performs a wide variety of complex experiments and reports results
Keeps organized analytical data of performed experiments
Provides support for equipment maintenance as needed
Acts as a liaison to students and laboratory personnel for training
Maintains laboratory supply requisition and management
May train junior-level staff.
May help plan experiments or short-term goals.
Bachelor's Degree in science or a related field
Some prior experience

Working Conditions / Demands
The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
