Under the direct supervision of the Director for Research and Laboratory Safety this role will manage, develop, and design training content based on regulatory requirements. The Training and Outreach Manager will provide direction, oversight and interaction of the day-to-day training, outreach, and multimedia related to the Department of Research and Laboratory Safety (RLS) operations. The selected candidate will interact directly with RLS personnel to ensure that our safety and compliance related activities are carried out in strict adherence with local, state and federal rules and regulations. Liaise with other University Departments and stakeholders to identify training needs while managing training attendance, tracking, and reporting. Conduct frequent reviews and knowledge assessments to evaluate that training content is leading to behavioral modification(s). Conduct retraining when and if needed. Work independently to create and improve training and achieve benchmark goals. Research regulatory safety and health rules and regulations, formulating safety policies and procedures, and organizing and facilitating required safety and technical training. Ensure compliance with federal, local, and state safety health standards; oversee the purchasing of safety and training systems and equipment; develop, implement and monitor employee training; designing and writing web and print material for marketing and educational purposes, supporting the development of BioRAFT (and other LMS systems); and provide public relations
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in Teaching, Business, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering or Science related field.
Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree Masters-level study in education, instructional systems design, training delivery and/or organizational learning.
Required Experience: 3+ years Progressively responsible professional level experience in the design and delivery of instructor-led (asynchronous) training and development programs, delivering virtual training (synchronous) using programs such as Zoom or WebEx, multimedia visual aids, and experience planning and developing online training for a wide variety of audiences. Proven ability to build, execute, manage, and improve programs and projects. Previous exposure to content managment systems (CMS) a plus. Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple tasks, prioritize and the ability to move fast in an ever-changing environment.
Preferred Experience: 3+ years Environmental Health and Safety, OSHA or related work environment experience preferred. 2-3 years life science experience strongly preferred.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and writing skills. Ability to develop and maintain we pages. Excellent presentation, delivery and organizational skills with proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Acrobat, InDesign) Adobe Captivate, Articulate Storyline 360, Social Media (YouTube, Twitter, etc.) Google Workplace Application, and video editing sortware (e.g. Final Cut, Adobe Premiere, Sony VEGAS). Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills essential. Ability to follow-through on training programs from development stage through implementation. Proven administrative, supervisory, team building and group facilitation skills, ability to communicate/function in an academic environment across levels of staff including senior leaders. Knowledge of performance management and organizational development tools and processes.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Expertise in adult learning principles. Website building skills experience a plus.
