Under general direction of designated administrator, the incumbent is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive Laboratory Safety Program including chemical hygiene and management systems in the laboratory, laboratory hazard communication, review of laboratory design and renovation projects, Chemical Fume Hood Program, and Hazardous Materials Shipping Program for the research divisions in Agriculture and Biosciences, Engineering and Physical Sciences, Marine and Oceans Sciences, Sustainability and the Environment, and Research Institutes and Centers at UNH. The incumbent will ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration, National Fire Protection Association, United States Environmental Protection Agency, Toxic Substances Control Act and United States Department of Transportation regulations and will manage the Laboratory Safety Training Program for research faculty, staff, and students.
PhD in Environmental Health and Safety or related discipline and 3 years of professional experience in environmental health and safety or related field, including 1 year as a supervisor; Masterâs degree in Environmental Health and Safety or related discipline and seven years of professional experience in environmental health and safety or related field, including two years as a supervisor; or Bachelorâs degree in Environmental Health and Safety or related discipline and nine years of experience, including four as a supervisor.

Comprehensive knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, nationally recognized codes and guidelines related to specialized environmental health and safety functions, as required by the position.

Must be able to wear and use appropriate protective equipment as necessary.
Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform the duties and responsibilities of the program as described by the department.
Ability to respond promptly in-person to research location requiring environmental health and safety services.
