Determine, prepare, analyze and interpret microbiological tests in diagnostic and research laboratory for morphological, serological, proteomic, quantity and biochemical characterization of infectious agents including bacteria and parasites. Perform urinalysis testing. Conduct antimicrobial susceptibility testing. Prepare and process clinical and post mortem specimens from animals/environment for microbiological testing. Prepare reports for veterinarians and animal owners. Communicate effectively with clientele. Microscopic examination of various stained slides. Prepare packages for shipment of infectious and non-infections samples. This position may perform some specialized testing which may include fungal culture, Leptospira testing, Mycoplasma culture, Listeria culture, Salmonella surveillance culture, select agent testing, and molecular diagnostics. Testing will be performed under direct supervision. This position will include occasional weekend and holiday rotations.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree plus 1 year of lab or related experience required; equivalent education/experience will be considered. Knowledge of microbiology including bacteriology, mycology, and parasitology. Must have good interpersonal skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate clearly to VDC clients and faculty.
Experience in a bacteriology lab preferred. Veterinary microbiology and clinical laboratory experience helpful. ASCP certification helpful.
