The Department of Medicine is seeking a Research Technologist. After entry-level training under the general supervision of a Faculty Investigator or Laboratory Supervisor, the individual is responsible for independently performing routine tests in a research laboratory and contributing to general maintenance of the laboratory, equipment and supplies.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Follows established procedures or protocols and utilizes aseptic technique to perform experiments associated with microbiology, molecular biology, serology, immunology, and animal models.
These may require bacteriological cultures, molecular biology techniques, including cloning and PCR, immunoblots, work with clinical samples, tissue culture and animal models. In addition, duties and responsibilities may be conducted in the Biosafety Level-3 (BSL-3) laboratory, in accordance with the University's policy on proper handling of Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
This person may also utilize sophisticated instrumentation such as flow cytometer and thermal cycler. Operation of lab computers for data entry.
Maintains accurate data records. Maintains and makes minor adjustments to equipment, e.g., calibrating, alignment.
Prepares solutions, reagents, and stains following standard laboratory formulas and procedures.
Monitors inventory levels, orders materials and supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures, counts orders upon receipt. Operates basic laboratory equipment such as centrifuge, pH meter, analytical balance, scintillation counter, spectrophotometer, light microscope, pipettes, and/or utilize laminar flow hood.
This person may also utilize sophisticated instrumentation such as flow cytometer, thermal cycler and spectrophotometer. No experience needed, we will train the employee.
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related field required.
Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred, especially in animal handling.
Basic Microsoft Office experience helpful.
