Postdoctoral Associate in Cell & Structural Biology
Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Internal Number: 108828
The Dai laboratory in the Department of Cell Biology and Neuroscience and the Institute for Quantitative Biomedicine at Rutgers University is seeking applications for a postdoctoral associate position. We are recruiting a motivated individual to contribute to the development of exciting new methodology of cellular tomography and cryo-focused ion beam for multiple collaborative projects. Research areas of primary interest include protein aggregation in neurodegenerative diseases and structure and dynamics of membrane proteins. The lab is hosted in the Institute for Quantitative Biomedicine, co-located with the RCSB Protein Data Bank. In addition to the Rutgers Cryo-electron Microscopy and Cryo-electron Tomography Facility that is equipped with a state-of-the-art cryo-electron microscope and an Aquilos cryo-focused ion beam, core facilities housed within the Institute include protein NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and hardware for high performance computing.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in Cell Biology, Neuroscience, Structural Biology, Microbiology, Bioengineering, or related area.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Candidate should be proficient in establishing and maintaining primary neuronal cultures and other mammalian cell cultures, generation of recombinant DNA constructs, and performing biochemical assays.
Good communication skills and ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment.
Working knowledge of Microsoft office, macOS system, and basic knowledge of Linux commend line.
Background in electron microscopy, X-ray crystallography, or fluorescence microscopy is particularly encouraged, but not required. Training on cryo-electron tomography sample preparation, data collection and analysis will be arranged once the candidate joins the lab.
Major equipment includes cryo-electron microscope, correlative light and electron microscope, and cryo-focused ion beam.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
The employee will be working in general cell biology laboratory settings. This position will require handling liquid nitrogen and ethane, and lifting of up to 30 pounds.
