ChristianaCare is recruiting for Medical Laboratory Technicians to work at the Newark and Wilmington campuses. These positions may be on day, evening, or midnight shifts. Weekends and holidays as required. In this position, you will perform a wide variety of laboratory procedures using both manual and automated methods and actively participate in the quality improvement activities of the laboratory.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Use computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accurately and completely provide patient care and properly accession orders
Accurately perform select test procedures as listed in the procedure manual
Perform thorough check of all specimens coming through department
Adhere to turnaround times
Process, label, release, dispense, and organize blood products according to established procedures
Prepare, label, and issue factor concentrates and pharmaceuticals according to established procedure
Follow established quality control procedures, documenting corrective action as necessary
Perform and record all scheduled instrument preventative maintenance procedures. Perform basic troubleshooting and call appropriate hotlines when necessary
Follow all organizational and laboratory safety policies. Review laboratory safety manual annually
Verify completion of all stat results and all routine results in as timely manner. Take and record all temperatures as required. Participates in quality assurance as directed by section manager. Records workloads and other statistics into computer system as necessary.
Maintains supply inventory, ordering and updating as needed
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology
ASCP (MLT) certification preferred
Knowledge of clinical laboratory techniques and procedures
Knowledge of infection control techniques and procedures
Ability to coordinate simultaneous tests and procedures with accuracy
Skill in the use of automated laboratory equipment
Skill in manual dexterity and normal color vision
