Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Temporary Research Assistant for the Deaprtment of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine within the New Jersey Medical School. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), the Temporary Research Assistant performs tasks involved in operating, maintaining and cleaning various types of laboratory equipment, including but not limited to preparing media, handling specimens, supplies and equipment.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
This technician will be trained to carry out experiments with human blood samples, cell processing and immunological assays.
Responsible for some aspects of lab management including ordering supplies.
Carries various sized packages of supplies and equipment throughout the laboratory areas.
Unpacks laboratory specimens and containers and delivers these to the proper laboratory area for analysis.
Assists in decontaminating, washing, and sterilizing laboratory glassware.
Inspects glassware and other materials and equipment for breakage, cleanliness and fitness for use.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in biology or other relevant scientific field.
Lab experience (either in coursework or a research setting) and coursework in immunology, cell biology and/or microbiology.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Position requires standing for a long duration of time.
Position requires lifting 1/3 of the time up to 35 pounds in order to dispose of Laboratory sanitary waste and lift laboratory equipment.
