The Technician A will provide technical services within the Columbia University Clinical Trials Support Lab. The laboratory supports the Division???s HIV AIDS clinical research efforts.
The Columbia Partnership Clinical Trials Unit CTU encompasses several Clinical Research Sites. The CTU participates in three National Institutes of Health sponsored HIV AIDS clinical Trails Networks ACTG, HVTN and HPTN, the COVID Prevention Network as well as numerous industry studies. Central to its activities are the Clinical Trails Support Laboratory and the Columbia University Research Pharmacy where investigational product is prepared. This position requires an individual that is highly responsible and able to maintain productive relationships through effective and timely communication. The incumbent may complete complex assignments with supervision. Technician will be given guidance from upper level technicians and laboratory manager.
Responsibilities
Utilizes specialized training to provide for the safe, timely and efficient transport of: 1. human specimens form the Clinical Research Site(s) to the Columbia University Medical Center Clinical Research Support Laboratory and 2. research study product from the Research Pharmacy to the Clinical Research Sites.
Provides frontline communication with site management concerning all items to be picked up and delivered in accordance with the site and Division of AIDS Standard Operating Procedures.
Assists with laboratory tasks such as maintaining laboratory equipment and ordering laboratory supplies.
Ensures communication between clinic and laboratory and performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Two years of college or a completed A.A. program with an emphasis in chemistry, biology or physics or a completed animal husbandry program
One year of related experience, or equivalent in education, training and experience
Strong decision-making skills and independent problem solving
Detail-oriented with ability to maintain accurate records
Computer skills and strong communication skills
Ability to handle multiple projects and interact with staff at all levels
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with chemistry, biology or physics terminology and techniques
Knowledge of laboratory safety, are essential
Other Requirement
The candidate selected for this position is required to undergo a drug screening test prior to a final offer of employment being made
Participation in the medical surveillance program
Contact with patients and/or human research subjects
Wear N-95 respirator
Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure
Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements
