Summary of Duties:
Manage teaching, research, safety, and Service Center activities in the Food Pilot Plant for the School of Food Science (50%) and the Department of Biological Systems Engineering (50%).
A Bachelor's degree in an appropriate related scientific or engineering discipline and three (3) years of progressively responsible related professional research experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. A Master's degree in an appropriate related scientific or engineering discipline may be substituted for up to one year of the required work experience.
Have or be able to obtain the following:
FDA/USDA Better Process Control School certification.
Training in EPA Good Laboratory Practices methodologies.
Demonstrated knowledge of food engineering, food science, food process unit operations, thermodynamics, machinery design and electronics.
Knowledge of electrical wiring codes related to control panels and plant equipment installation.
Demonstrated knowledge of process control software, data acquisition hardware and software, computer programming and computer networking.
Knowledge of plumbing and steam systems.
First aid certification.
Forklift license and experience in moving large, heavy and expensive equipment.
Safety training in operation and maintenance of high voltage, high pressure, microwave, and radio frequency processing equipment.
Occasionally required to travel to visit food plants in the region and to attend technical meetings.
Demonstrated high level of skill in problem solving, interpersonal communications and written communications.
Graduate degree in Instrumental/Electrical/Mechanical Engineering/Chemical Engineering/Food Engineering, or other related engineering disciplines.
Experience working in an academic environment.
Demonstrated effective leadership and teamwork skills.
Demonstrated teaching skills.
