Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Temporary Research Assistant for the Center for Emerging Pathogens/Public Health Research Institute within the New Jersey Medical School. Under direction of the Principal Investigator, the Temporary Research Assistant will conduct computational and systems biology analyses of host or pathogen biological networks as they pertain to infectious diseases.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Performs computational analysis including, not limited to, network modeling, next-generation sequencing analysis, bioinformatic statistical testing, machine learning and other biomedical data analyses.
Assists the Principal Investigator with the preparation of grant applications and manuscripts.
Assists the Principal Investigator in written and formal presentations to industrial collaborators and funding agencies.
Demonstrates good team spirit and communication skills.
As required, assists in the implementation of the programs and projects in special areas of interest to the department.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Must have prior research experience in a science-related field.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must be a team player with good communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in microbiology, tissue culture, programming, machine learning, or biomedical data science.

This position involves prolonged standing, walking and sitting, as well as use of laboratory equipment. Must perform complex procedures and demonstrate manual dexterity. Some stooping, reaching, climbing and bending. Occasional lifting of 20 pounds to a height of 6½ feet. Hearing and speech capabilities necessary to communicate with other researchers and staff in person, on the telephone and by e-mail. Vision capable of viewing gauges, computer monitors, charts, forms, text and numbers for prolonged periods.
Special Conditions:
Must be available to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays when necessary to meet deadlines.
