Position Summary:
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist III within the New Jersey Medical School. Under the direction or the Principal Investigator and Research Operations Assistant Director, the Research Teaching Specialist III conducts research activities in microbiology within a specialized bio-safety level three (BSL3) containment laboratory. May be responsible for the management of a small-sized laboratory area.
Cultures and quantitates pathogenic and non-pathogenic bacteria including M. Tuberculosis, requiring work in BSL3 facilities. Performs detailed MICs and DNA /RNA extraction of above described bacteria using various systems and performs preliminary analysis. Assists in the development and testing of new assays. Works safely in a BSL3 environment. Assists in managing BSL3 facilities. Responsible for organizing laboratory to increase efficiency . Minimum Education and Experience:
Master's Degree in a relevant science plus one (1) year of related research experience, or a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant science plus two (2) years of related research experience. Experience in microbiological and bimolecular techniques with BSL2 and BSL3 bacterial pathogens. Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with virulent M. tuberculosis. Physical Demands and Work Environment:
