The Animal Health Diagnostic Center (AHDC) is a high visibility and high volume veterinary diagnostic laboratory that promotes the health, productivity, and welfare of food-and fiber-producing animals, companion animals, and zoo and wildlife populations. Through its comprehensive veterinary diagnostic services, the AHDC detects animal diseases and supports animal and public health, promotes environmental stewardship, and fosters economic growth.
The Client Resource Team (CRT) serves as the frontline of customer support for the AHDC. They build and maintain successful relationships with the organization's clientele by utilizing a variety of communication tools to assist with daily needs. The CRT is integral in ensuring the efficient and accurate processing of client submissions through detailed data entry and information review.
The Lab Processing Assistant III is responsible for serving as a passionate client advocate who utilizes exceptional listening and communication skills to understand the needs of internal and external clients alike. Highly collaborative, they work across all levels to create a positive and effective team-based environment. With a positive attitude and an attention to quality, this individual quickly adapts to handle unpredictable workloads and can identify and troubleshoot problems as they arise. They thrive in an outcome-driven setting with clear deadlines, and enjoy working on routine and detailed tasks.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Perform a comprehensive range of client and process support functions on a rotational basis; document management, reconciling account information, mail distribution, accessioning submissions.
- Serve as a point of contact for internal and external client communications and inquiries; receive and respond to phone calls, emails and faxes; triage cases to determine urgency and complexity; assist to find resolution or escalate to the appropriate personnel when necessary.
- Utilize Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to add/edit information and to retrieve testing results.
- Work collaboratively across the organization to ensure optimal service is provided.
- Adhere to all applicable unit, organization and University policies; follow and assist to maintain established unit procedures.
- Provide client billing support.
- Maintain proficiency with unit, organization and university computer systems and instrumentation software.
- Assist with unit training as needed.
- Provide routine sample processing support on a daily basis in accordance with test requirements and client specimen standards.
- Monitor and maintain required job-related certifications and trainings, to include Cornell University Laboratory Safety trainings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate's degree with six months to one year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficient in basic software systems and the ability to learn new functions quickly.
- Strong attention to accuracy with an ability to follow standard operating procedures, enter data with precision, and seek information as needed.
- Excellent self-management practices to successfully organize competing priorities to meet deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Works well both independently and within a team environment.
- Ability to maintain strong working relationships while meeting individual and unit goals in accordance with the broader mission.
- Ability to handle sensitive, confidential information with tact and discretion.
- Ability to push, pull, lift, or carry up to 20 pounds.
- Must maintain a valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in a science-related field.
- Licensed animal health technician.
- Experience working in a laboratory setting, or a human or veterinary medical facility.
- Experience working within an organization with and established Quality Assurance System.
Employees of the Animal Health Diagnostic Center must adhere to the AHDC Quality Assurance system, confidentiality statement, standard operating procedures, and organizational policies.
Employees are expected to meet all of the Cornell University Staff Skills for Success, which are essential for individual and organizational success.
Employees working in the lab must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire, which will be paid for by the department.
This position is 39 hours per week, with a schedule of Monday through Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm, with Saturday and Holiday coverage on a rotational basis. Specific schedules, however, may change to meet the needs of the business, requiring employees to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, University holidays and scheduled breaks.
