Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow for the Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine (CABM) at the Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS) campus in Piscataway.
Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the Postdoctoral Fellow will conduct research on microbiome characteristics in humans and animal models. The project will involve informatic analyses based on biochemical examinations of specimens and tissues, either performed by the Postdoctoral Fellow or by others in the research group, or by collaborators in other groups. The project may also involve use and development of software programs for analysis of multi-dimensional metagenomic, transcriptomic and metatranscriptomic data. The Postdoctoral Fellow will be expected to participate in the configuration and maintenance of data bases necessary for conduct of the project. It is expected that research will lead to publications and the Postdoctoral Fellow will be expected to prepare manuscripts as well as contribute to the preparation of grant and fellowship applications. The fellow will also be expected to guide the research projects of undergraduate research assistants.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Carry out informatic analyses of metagenomic, transcriptomic, and metatranscriptomic data, with the goal of defining populations, individual taxa, genes, pathways and transcripts in body secretons and excreta, as well as host transcriptional responses.
Conduct biochemical procedures for extraction of nucleic acids from bio-specimens, and preparation of libraries for high-throughput sequencing.
Participate in the configuration and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation and equipment, including computers, necessary for conduct of the project.
Prepare scientific manuscripts for publication, and contribute to the preparation of research grant and fellowship applications.
Supervise and guide the research projects of undergraduate research assistants.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Ph.D. in Microbiology, Computational Biology or a related science.
Prior experience and productivity in research must be demonstrated.
Experience is required with standard microbiome molecular biology techniques, nucleic acid purification, and biochemical and biophysical analyses.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The candidate is expected to be proficient in spoken and written English.
Previous experience with microbiome metagenome and network analyses, DNA quantitation, and computational analyses and working with human samples.
