The Chemical Safety Office/Lab Assistant supports the management of laboratory materials and chemicals in the upper school science program. This person facilitates the day-to-day operations of science classes by organizing and maintaining equipment and ensuring chemical storage, use, and disposal meet current required standards.
maintain a searchable chemical and equipment inventory
maintain safety data sheets
practice safe chemical storage practices that meet current standards
coordinate with science teachers and with Facilities department to maintain organizational and safety protocols
prepare materials and equipment for lab activities (experience preparing chemical solutions is required)
set up and put away materials and equipment for class activities
maintain and fix equipment (such as probes, balances, microscopes, etc.)
order supplies and monitor budget
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or similar science field is preferred.
Knowledge of microbiology preferred but not required.
Experience in the safe handling of chemicals is necessary.
