A Research Associate (Post-Doc) position is available in the QBEAM Center. The research project involves determining a universal calibration method for LA-ICP-MS of biological samples utilizing and creating standard reference material with complex calibration procedures and corroborating data between institutions to confirm absolute quantification of metals in biological systems. The researcher will contribute to high-throughput 3D reconstructions of tissue-specific, multi-elemental distribution by imaging whole tissues using LA-ICP-MS. Several studies will focus on elemental mapping of the brain, kidneys, liver, and ovaries in a variety of tissue types including mouse, rats, and human biopsy specimens.
This position will help develop new instrumentation, methods, and research projects in biology, chemistry, plant biology, and soil sciences among many other collaborators and departments. In addition, the candidate will conduct instrument training, sample analysis, billing, and facility planning amongst our user base both internal at MSU and external academic and industrial partners.
The applicant must have a PhD in the area of biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology or a related field with significant experience and record of peer-reviewed publications in trace element analysis.
This is a full-time, 12-month fixed-term position with reappointment contingent on satisfactory performance and available funding.
