The Research Technican role is responsible for performing standard and investigative laboratory work in support of scientific research by performing bench-level experiments, operating analytical instruments, recovering, compiling and verifying the accuracy of research data; performing calculations; preparing charts, graphs and summaries.
This position will work with members of the laboratory of Dr. Taran Gujral in the Division of Human Biology to culture and maintain a collection of cell lines, prepare samples and carry out biochemical and PCR-based assays, assist in mouse experiments, and use various software packages to analyze data from these assays. The position requires attention to detail, high level of initiative and excellent communication skills. The candidate should be able to work independently and as part of a team. This position provides a rich environment to learn about cell biology and the drug discovery process. Candidates will also have the opportunity to present their research during lab meetings and scientific conferences and to write, submit, and publish scientific papers.
Research Technician I: Bachelor's degree in a related field required.
Reserach Technician II: Bachelor's degree and two years of professional lab research experience required
Experience with tissue culture and with standard molecular biological techniques (DNA and RNA extraction, cloning, sequencing, etc.), protein isolation and analysis (gel electrophoresis, immunoblotting, etc.), microbiology techniques, and animal handling is required.
Prior experience with computer databases and programs such as Excel preferred.
Attention to detail, time management and organization skills, and a high level of the initiative are required.
