This position will serve as a key member of the research group which consists of three research cores: Cardiovascular, Mucosal Immunology, and Phytochemistry. A successful candidate will closely collaborate with the Principal Investigator and researchers involved in multidisciplinary research projects and initiatives. The employee in this position is expected to use the tools and principles of quality management in performing their daily work including the following: demonstrate exceptional record keeping and maintain professional relationship with supervisor and coworkers. Provide constructive feedback for the purpose of continuous improvement. Use data collection tools as appropriate. Use effective team skills to contribute to the efficient operation of the research core. Present ideas, carry out assignments, and provide information as required. Provide technical laboratory support activities including technical procedures, culturing, preparation of samples, media, reagents, glassware and assays.
This position would focus on cell culture experiments both in vivo and ex vivo. There is large focus on assisting in the development of medical imaging and therapeutics. Candidate will assist in protocols, transcript preparation and publication.
-Perform directed in vivo and ex vivo translational animal (large and small) and in vitro cell culture, bacterial culture and/or tissue culture experiments directed at gaining an understanding of how test articles (drugs, diet, antimicrobial peptides, and /or phytochemicals) impact cardiovascular health and mucosal immunology in humans and animals. The individual will assist in the development of medical imaging and/or therapeutic medical device/drug technologies. The individual will be responsible for maintaining well-organized and meticulous research records.
-Assist in writing and updating animal use and biosafety protocols. Analyze data and prepare or assist in preparation of standard operating protocols and progress reports. Maintain awareness of current literature and knowledge in areas of research.
- Assist in the daily laboratory responsibilities including, but not limited to, preparing reagents/solution, ordering supplies and equipment, maintaining equipment and supervision of student hourly workers. Coordinate with the activities of other research team members to complete project objectives in a timely manner. Assist in training other research team members as required.
- Actively participate in design of experiments, research group meetings and present weekly results and progress on projects.
- Participate in the preparation of manuscripts for publication in scientific journals.

Appointment Type, Duration:
Terminal, 12 month appointment. This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding

This position will be scheduled to work 40 hours per week with the intended schedule of Monday through Friday, 7:45am - 4:30pm. Hours will be flexible in order to ensure operational needs are met, and some evening and weekend work may be required.
