Dr. Yanzhuang Wang & #39;s laboratory is searching for a Research Laboratory Technician Associate. Research in the lab at the University of Michigan in the department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology focuses on the biogenesis, function, and defects of the Golgi in diseases. The Golgi apparatus is a central membrane organelle for protein trafficking, glycosylation, and secretion in all eukaryotic cells. A unique feature of this organelle is a stack of flattened cisternae. Our research aims to understand how this structure is formed, why its formation is important for Golgi function under normal conditions, and how the Golgi becomes defective in its structure and function under stress or disease conditions. The work will provide a basic understanding of Golgi function in protein trafficking, glycosylation, inheritance during the cell cycle, and pathology in diseases such as Alzheimer & #39;s disease, cancer and diabetes. You will report to Dr. Yanzhuang Wang directly. You will be working full time in-person in a research lab located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology conducts basic research about the function of all branches of life bacteria, plants, and animals. Conduct an independent research project on the structure and function of the Golgi apparatus
Support lab researchers on related research. Help with some functional management and training of junior lab personnel
Contribute to the lab workflows, including biosafety, supplies, and organization of protocols
Manage general lab organization. Maintain accurate, organized, and clear records and protocols that can be accessed and used by the PI and research team. May help prepare and update regulatory protocols (such as animal protocols, IRB, IBC, and EHS)
Candidates must have a high school diploma or Associate’s degree and 1 year of full-time bench lab experience in a cell biology lab.
Basic knowledge in cell biology and biochemistry, in particular membrane biology.
Must have experience with many basic molecular and cellular biology techniques in a research laboratory setting. Familiar with the following techniques: *Cell culture, including transfection, sample preparation and protein concentration measurement. *Western blotting, including casting gels, loading samples, running gels, transfer, block and incubation of membranes with antibodies, acquiring images and quantitation of results. *Immunofluorescence microscopy, including sample preparation, imaging and quantitation.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel (EXP: can maintain complex spreadsheets of data quantification and create graphs) Photoshop, and similar software to organize and analyze experimental data.
Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), including sample preparation of tissue culture cells and animal tissues, imaging and quantitation.
Some prior experience working with laboratory mice or rats and animal tissue immunocytochemistry is preferred.
This position is a term-limited position for one year. There is a possibility for renewal depending on performance and availability of funding.
