Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow for the Department of Microbiology, Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), the Postdoctoral Fellow position is available in the lab of Dr. Purnima Bhanot. We are studying Plasmodium, a fascinating organism for the study of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) structure because of its unique cell biological features. Our goal is to characterize putative ER-shaping proteins of Plasmodium, their functions in the parasite's cell biology and their effect on parasite virulence. We use tools of molecular genetics (gene knockouts, conditional protein depletion, CRISPR editing), imaging (confocal and super- resolution microscopy) and proteomics in P. berghei and P. falciparum. Postdoc candidates should have peer- reviewed publications, training in cell biology, imaging and molecular genetics. Please contact Dr. Purnima Bhanot(bhanotpu@njms.rutgers.edu).
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Performs scientific research (protein purification, biochemistry, enzymatic assays, tissue culture, cell biology, light and fluorescence microscopy, molecular biology, rodent handling, mosquito dissection) under the PI's guidance.
Communicates regularly with the P.I.
Maintains detailed and accurate experimental records.
Participates and presents in journal clubs, seminars and conferences.
Reads current scientific and technical literature relevant to the laboratory's mission.
Performs other related duties, as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience:
