The Client-Based Researcher II will be working at the UW-Madison Center for Dairy Research including trials that occur in the cheese pilot plant and dairy processing areas. This position is like no other in the dairy cheesemaking industry. This exciting position will be working in a team environment with other cheesemakers and dairy processors where research, product development, troubleshooting, innovation, training, and working with clients from around the world allows for significant personal growth like no position elsewhere in our industry. This position will be learning about exciting new innovations in the dairy industry through internal and external training opportunities. This person will design and setup cheesemaking experiments/trials to meet research or industry objectives, including meeting with clients to prepare an initial scope of work, selecting appropriate analytical testing, assisting licensed cheesemakers in conducting the trial, reviewing results/data from these trials and preparing reports for clients. In addition, this position will present results at meetings and short courses and supports graduate student research projects. This position could also include plant visits for trials or troubleshooting and could be involved in research publications.
Responsibilities:
Designs methodology, conducts data collection and analysis, and prepares reports for moderately complex client-based research. May co-author publications, present research, and guide the efforts of other research staff.
30% Directs the development of research methodologies and procedures according to client-based objectives and specifications
5% Identifies concerns and recommends solutions to leadership
30% Collects and analyzes moderately complex research data for one or more research projects. Designs and conducts experiments and interviews. Documents results according to established policies and procedures
30% Prepares reports and materials and disseminates information to appropriate entities
5% Reviews and edits research protocols under limited supervision

Education:
Preferred Bachelor's Degree Preferred focus in Food Science, Microbiology, Engineering or related field.
Qualifications:
Required: - At least 3 years of relevant work experience in the dairy/food industry - Knowledge of dairy chemistry, processing and cheesemaking - Experience in doing projects or trials - Experience and familiarity with Microsoft office applications like Excel, PowerPoint
Preferred: - Wisconsin cheesemakers license (or will need to obtain one within 1 year of starting at CDR) - Familiarity with routine and specialized tests for dairy products

Full or Part Time: 75% - 100%
It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
