Department: Columbia University College of Dental Medicine/Microbiology & Immunology

Under the direction of Dr. Mildred Embree, Assistant Professor of Dental Medicine and PI in the Laboratory of Cartilage Biology and Regenerative Medicine, Postdoctoral Research Scientist will handle the following:

• Conduct research and prepare publications on the subject of novel biomaterials for cartilage regeneration
• Handle projects to define and characterize skeletal stem/progenitor cells and the pathological mechanisms governing their identity during development and inflammatory joint disease using genetically modified mice, a new rheumatoid min-pig model we are developing, and single-cell RNAseq.
• Establishing independent protocols and leading in designing new experiments and analyzing data.
• fibrocartilage stem cells in disease and cartilage regeneration. Experiments will involve mouse genetics, both human and rodent primary cell cultures, histological analyses, and osteoarthritis disease models.
• Maintains daily laboratory journal and animal records.
• Attend and participate in weekly group lab meetings and individual meetings with Dr. Embree.
• Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team, including basic and clinical researchers in the College of Physicians and Surgeons, the College of Dental Medicine, and other external industry partners, Wnt Scientific, LLC.
• Co-mentor and train students to understand that their lab work should be prioritized.
• Generate first-author manuscripts yearly, in addition, to contributing to co-author publications.
• Prepare and acquire individual funding, such as the Nill F32 Award, within two years of initial appointment.
• Attend and present at local, national, and international scientific conferences like the AADR/IADR General Session and New York Stem Cell Conference.
