Position Announcement:
The Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research conducts basic science and translational research within the Department of Pediatrics at Indiana University School of Medicine. The Wells Center houses more than 200 faculty investigators, staff, and trainees seeking answers to the most pressing questions related to childhood illness.
With the collaboration between scientists and physicians, the center aims to increase knowledge of causes and mechanisms of serious pediatric diseases. Our goal is to develop innovative approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of sick children in Indiana and beyond.
The Han lab in the Department of Pediatrics, Indiana University School of Medicine has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral fellow position. The research focus will be the the molecular mechanisms of muscular dystrophy and cardiomyopathy, and the development of gene editing therapeutic strategies for these diseases. Further, translating them into clinical applications and if possible, driving them toward commercialization for improving healthcare. This academic position is most suitable for a driven individual willing to take on more independent responsibilities while working as part of a multidisciplinary research team.
Postdoctoral fellow designs, executes and manages research projects investigating the molecular mechanisms of and developing gene therapies for cardiovascular disease in a translational research laboratory.
Collaborates with the principal investigator (PI) to develop and implement goals and objectives of studies;
Conceptualizes, designs and executes complex laboratory experiments;
Plans and executes advanced molecular, cellular, biochemical, histopathological and animal model techniques;
Collects, analyzes and interprets research data;
Performs critical analysis of literature relevant to research;
Collaborates with PI to write and prepare research papers and manuscripts for publication and presentation at national and conferences and workshops, and in the writing of project reports, articles and other documents;
Attends and presents research results at national and international scientific conferences, workshops and seminars;
Assists with development, writing and preparation of grant proposals to obtain new or renewal of extramural funding in support of research;
Monitors and enforces laboratory safety procedures to ensure compliance with IU regulations, as well as local, state and federal regulations, including proper disposal and maintenance of regulated materials;
Trains and/or supervises research staff; manages daily operations of the laboratory;
Oversees and initiates procurement of lab supplies and equipment;
Provides technical assistance and supervision of equipment.

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate or terminal degree required. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D. in cell biology, physiology, or related fields, and must have first author publications.
