The UCSF Department of Laboratory Medicine is seeking a highly motivated Laboratory Manager to oversee the operations of Dr. Brian Shy's research laboratory and the Cell Therapy Development (CTD) Lab. These state-of-the-art laboratories are dedicated to advancing the therapeutic application of genome and epigenome engineering tools for a wide range of indications, including cancer, rare diseases, infectious diseases, autoimmunity, and transplant-related conditions.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the laboratory personnel, resources, and daily operations, ensuring smooth and efficient functioning of both labs.
Responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Shy Lab and CTD Lab in compliance with UCSF policies, regulations, and safety standards. Key responsibilities include coordinating and supervising laboratory personnel, handling hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations. Develops and maintains Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for equipment, techniques, and safety protocols, while also managing procurement, maintenance, and inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment. Additionally, will handle laboratory budgets, financial reporting, and facilitate communication and collaboration between labs, research groups, core facilities, and university administration.
The Laboratory Manager will foster a culture of continuous improvement, scientific excellence, and collaboration within and between the labs, stay up-to-date with developments in the fields of genome and epigenome engineering, cell and gene therapies, and will act as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, will oversee laboratory safety, provide training, maintain documentation, and serve as a liaison with the UCSF Environmental Health and Safety office. By ensuring the smooth functioning and success of both labs, will play a crucial role in advancing innovative research at UCSF.
Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.
