Department Description
The UC Davis Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine Clinical Research Unit (CRU) is comprised of several distinct scientific programs in diverse disease indications. The CRU provides investigators with tools to foster clinical and translational research. The CRU supports researchers across the Division and Department to promote translational and interdisciplinary biomedical research. The CRU works with NIH and other funded research, as well as investigator-initiated studies. The work complexity and volume of the CRU is high, with an average of 90 human subjects projects active at any point in time, including multi-institutional collaborations and all phases of study.

Responsibilities The Clinical Research Supervisor (CRS) is responsible for the oversight of the Division's clinical aspect of the human subjects research program and direct supervision of clinical research coordinators and junior staff. The CRS will oversee approximately one third of the Division's clinical trial portfolio in several disease indications, including acting on behalf of the Research Manager, making decisions and representing him/her on research related issues. The CRS is also responsible for the direct regulatory management of the trials in the assigned research portfolio.
The position requires an extensive background in human subjects research and clinical trials management, along with experience supervising or mentoring junior staff. This position will report to the Clinical Research Manager. Under the direction of the Medical Director and Clinical Research Manager, the CRS will work closely with the UC Davis Lung Center, collaborating institutions, appropriate departments, and community referral providers to develop, implement, and maintain a dynamic and efficient research program in accordance with the professional standards of the discipline, applicable regulatory requirements, and business objectives of the organization. The scope of the responsibilities ranges from participation in personnel management, regulatory development, strategic planning, program leadership, resource stewardship, and quality improvement. The supervisor will have an opportunity to leverage creativity and innovation to enhance the current program and participate in growth of potential future programs.
Required Qualifications Applicants are encouraged to upload license and certification if required of the position.
Professional research certification by recognized authority such as ACRP or SOCRA.
Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or a combination of experience, education and/or training required.
Previous experience in clinical research.
Several years of leadership experience.
Broad knowledge of clinical or laboratory research and clinical research philosophy.
Demonstrated ability to translate clinical research philosophy into business best practices in a trial setting.
Demonstrated project and data management skills.
Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, prioritize projects and meet the demands of a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
Demonstrated experience managing people with a wide range of educational backgrounds and skills.
Demonstrated management and conflict resolution skills to effectively lead and motivate others.
Demonstrated experience in training others in the field of research.

Preferred Qualifications
BS or MS in Science and/or Business
Demonstrated experience in the field of internal medicine, including knowledge and understanding of disease processes in pulmonary and critical care medicine.
Knowledge of requirements of the National Institute of Health, Institutional Review Boards, Office of Human Research Protection and UCD research policy and procedures in coordinating clinical trials to include familiarity with complex medical documents and Case Report Forms.
Meticulous attention to detail, particularly in adherence to study protocols and during completion of regulatory documentation.
Experience supervising, especially laboratory or clinical trials staff, preferably in a union environment.
Skill to perform new technical laboratory procedures with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated skills in laboratory management to include but not limited to: laboratory safety and protocols, project coordination, and maintenance of equipment, records, and reports.
Demonstrated knowledge of safety requirements and regulations pertaining to the research, teaching and administrative functions of the department. Ability to teach and to communicate those requirements and regulations effectively to department faculty, staff and students.
Working knowledge of PC operating systems; advanced knowledge of MS Office programs including Word, Outlook, and Excel, demonstrated ability to efficiently utilize online project/team management tools statistical analysis programs, and PubMed searches.
Skill in the use of biological safety cabinets and protective clothing (latex gloves, laboratory coat) and ability to follow specific, detailed instruction on the safe handling of biohazardous material.
