Perform general animal surgical preparations such as: sedation and induction, intubation, anesthesia, IV catheter placement, specimen collections and surgical site preparation (sterile and nonsterile procedures)
Perform and assist with surgical procedures such as: angiography, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, interventional, vascular, pulmonary
Monitor animal vitals (i.e. heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure) before, during and after surgery and meticulously complete surgical monitoring records
Become capable of evaluating, monitoring, and responding to conditions as they arise before, during and after surgery: depth of anesthesia, fluid or pharmaceutical administration, drawing blood or urine samples
Operates hemodynamic software, fluoroscopy and imaging equipment in support of procedures
Laboratory Support – 40%
Prepare surgical suites for procedures, including setting up instruments and stocking study-specific supplies
Maintain inventory of supplies and orders items as necessary
Clean lab, ensure equipment is functioning properly, and contact vendors for repairs as needed
Document as required for IACUC, AAALAC, and GLP guidelines
Study Management – 20%
Assist with writing protocols and reports for GLP and non GLP studies
Professionally communicate with principal investigators and their research teams by phone or email
Provide design and execution recommendations for surgical protocols to principle investigators
Write and maintains standard operating procedures and laboratory safety procedures
Keep meticulously detailed records of all experiments and procedures
Ensure lab users are compliant with safety regulations and lab specific protocols are followed.

Required Qualifications:
BA/BS and 1 year of related experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience to equal 5 years.
Must be willing to work a flexible work week:
o APIC’s core hours are 6:30AM-4:30PM Monday-Friday
o Periodic evening, weekend and holiday hours
o Hours will not exceed 40/week
o Occasional work from home
Must be able to lift 50 lbs. by oneself, must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferably degree in medical, preclinical, or related veterinary field (Animal Science, Veterinary Technology, Biology, Zoology
Strong problem solving skills and demonstrated ability to work in a team
ALAT certification or knowledge of animal handling and care
Experience in IACUC approved animal surgical procedures including anesthesia, intubation, sterile techniques, and catheterization for arterial and venous access
Experience with conducting research according to GLP regulations
