PGY1 Pharmacy Residency: The PGY1 Residency program at The University of Kansas Health System provides educational and training experiences for pharmacists in the fundamentals of exemplary contemporary pharmacy practice in an integrated health care system. Through various clinical, practice management and pharmaceutical practice training segments, the residency instills a philosophy of practice that embraces the concept that pharmacists must be accountable for optimum drug therapy outcomes and act as leaders in advancing care of patients. Rotations include acute care, critical care, specialty care, quality, medication safety & drug policy, and a variety of health system electives.

*The PGY1 Program will NOT be participating in PPS, they have informational sessions advertised on social media and will be at the Monday afternoon session of the ASHP Residency Showcase.*

PGY1/2/MS Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Residency: The purpose of the residency is to provide educational and training experiences for pharmacists in the fundamentals of exemplary contemporary pharmacy practice in an integrated healthcare system. Through various clinical, practice management and pharmaceutical practice training segments, the residency instills a philosophy of practice that embraces the concept that pharmacists must be accountable for optimum drug therapy outcomes and act as leaders in advancing care of patients. This program is designed to provide a strong clinical experience and equip graduates with the essential leadership skills necessary to assume high level managerial, supervisory, and leadership responsibilities throughout their career. This 2- year program includes a Master’s Degree from the University of Kansas.

PGY2 Ambulatory Care Residency: The Post Graduate Year Two Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency at The University of Kansas Health System focuses on developing the knowledge, attitudes, training and skills necessary to cultivate pharmacists who are competent and compassionate practitioners who are prepared for a role as an ambulatory care pharmacist. Residents will have experiences in numerous ambulatory clinics with both a longitudinal rotation and block rotations in areas based on their interests. They will have a flexible schedule that is adjusted to align with their goals and interests and give them experiences in numerous ambulatory clinics ranging from primary care, heart failure, and transplant to specialty disease states such as IBD, rheumatology, dermatology, HIV, epilepsy and more.

PGY2 Critical Care Residency: **THE PGY2 CRITICAL CARE RESIDENCY HAS EARLY COMMITTED ALL POSITIONS FOR 2024-2025 RESIDENCY CLASS AND WILL NOT BE PARTICIPATING IN PPS IN DECEMBER 2023**   At the University of Kansas Health System, the ASHP-accredited Critical Care PGY2 program focuses on the complex management of critically in patients in a variety of patient care areas. Experiential training opportunities in intensive care areas such as medical, medical oncology, surgical/trauma/burn, bone marrow transplant, cardiothoracic surgery, cardiovascular, neuro/neurosurgical/ENT, infectious diseases, pediatric, and emergency medicine are offered. Additional longitudinal experiences available include health-system committee participation, didactic teaching, emergency response, precepting pharmacy students, and research opportunities.

PGY2 Infectious Diseases Residency: The PGY2 Infectious Diseases Residency Program is designed to provide residents with robust experience in the management of both clinical infectious diseases and population-level antimicrobial stewardship practices. The University of Kansas Health System boasts ten ID consult services that manage a diverse adult patient population including patients with cystic fibrosis, burns, hematologic and oncologic malignancies, and solid organ transplants. A wide variety of bacterial, fungal and viral infections are routinely encountered. The PGY2 resident will have the opportunity to experience a variety of rotations including dedicated time in the clinical microbiology laboratory and care of people living with HIV in addition to inpatient infectious diseases consult service rotations. Additional longitudinal responsibilities include participation in the antimicrobial stewardship subcommittee, teaching at the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy, precepting students and residents, quality improvement and research. Completion of this program will prepare the resident for a career in antimicrobial stewardship or clinical practice.

PGY2 Medication-Use Safety and Policy Residency: The PGY2 Medication-Use Safety and Policy Residency program at The University of Kansas Health System (TUKHS) is designed to equip the resident with expertise in the practices of formulary management and medication safety and the ability to assume a leadership role in these areas. The resident will receive advanced training in safe medication-use practices and process improvement as a member of an interdisciplinary team focusing on patient safety within the health system. They will gain experience in various methodologies used to measure medication-use safety, the application of technologies that improve the medication-use process, analysis of complex systems to identify and correct system flaws, understanding human factors that impact the safety of patient care, and the promotion of a culture of safety. Responsibilities include medication event review as well as adverse drug reaction and product problem monitoring and reporting. The resident will also contribute to the optimization of medication management through the provision of evidence-based evaluation of the medical literature. This will include the preparation and presentation of materials to support the Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee or a P&T Subcommittee in medication-use policy and formulary management considerations. These functions, along with the opportunity to respond to drug information requests from various healthcare professionals, will facilitate the development of clinical problem solving, professional communication and project management skills. There will also be a focus on academia with exposure to didactic and experiential teaching for students, PGY1 residents and pharmacy staff.

PGY2 Oncology Residency: The Post Graduate Year Two Oncology Pharmacy Residency at The University of Kansas Health System provides residents with the skills and knowledge to become a competent hematology/oncology pharmacy practitioner.  The focus of the residency program is adult oncology and hematology, with experiences in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and ambulatory oncology practice settings.  The residency is tailored to the interests and the career goals of each resident to build toward a successful career in hematology/oncology pharmacy.

PGY2 Pharmacy Informatics Residency: The Post Graduate Year-2 informatics residency at The University of Kansas Health System builds on the foundational skills learned through a PGY1 pharmacy residency, combining clinical skills and knowledge with effective use of health information technology to positively impact the safety, quality, and efficiency of pharmacy practices.  The program is designed to develop the skills and knowledge necessary for enhancing medication-use processes across the continuum of care through use of health information technology. Experiential training opportunities in informatics fundamentals, pharmacy automation, clinical decision support, data analytics, project management, end-user training, and leadership and management are key components of this program.

PGY2 Psychiatry Residency: **THE PGY2 PSYCHIATRY RESIDENCY HAS EARLY COMMITTED ALL POSITIONS FOR 2024-2025 RESIDENCY CLASS AND WILL NOT BE PARTICIPATING IN PPS IN DECEMBER 2023** The Post Graduate Year Two Psychiatric Pharmacy Residency at The University of Kansas Health System provides residents with the skills and knowledge to become a competent psychiatric pharmacy practitioner.  The focus of the residency program is adult and child/adolescent psychiatry, in both inpatient and outpatient settings within the health system.  Additional experiential training opportunities include consult liaison psychiatry, neurology, clinical research, administration, emergency psychiatry, substance use disorder clinic, and poison center/toxicology.  The residency is tailored to the interests and the career goals of each resident to build toward a successful career in psychiatric pharmacy.
