Position Summary:
The Department of Environment and Sustainability at the University at Buffalo, an R1, AAU institution, and a Flagship of the SUNY system, seeks to hire one (1) tenure-track ecologist or environmental scientist at the Assistant or Advanced Assistant Professor rank, to begin in the 2024-2025 academic year.
We are especially interested in researchers with a demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinarity and with training and research in Sustainability Science. We welcome unconventional approaches to critical issues: topics of interest include but are not limited to urban ecology, agri-food systems, energy, climate, and other research areas in coupled natural-human systems. Field, lab, modeling, and computational analytic approaches with scales from local to global that may include transformations, tipping points, and regime shifts are all appreciated. Our location in Western New York is ideally positioned for the study of processes that impact rural, suburban and urban environments, all in the context of two of the Great Lakes.
The department offers undergraduate and graduate degrees including Sustainability, Sustainability Leadership, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Studies, and Evolution, Ecology and Behavior.
Our faculty are committed to the goal of problem-solving for a sustainable future. The department is therefore broadly based, with faculty expertise in the ecological and environmental sciences, social sciences and humanities.
Our pedagogical mission is to guide the academic careers of students trained to consider both natural and social science aspects of environmental problems, and effectively communicate their findings to the world.
Standard duties for academic-year (10-month) faculty include maintaining a strong research program, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and seminars, advising and mentoring students, and providing service to the Department and University.
Located on territory of the Seneca Nation of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, we are committed to providing an inclusive, accessible, and safe environment where everyone can learn and thrive.
