Posted: 10-Nov-23 Location: Los Angeles, California Type: Full-time Salary: Open Internal Number: 4779030  University of California Los Angeles Requisition Number: JPF08982 The University of California, Los Angeles invites applicants and nominations for an internationally recognized scientist in microbiology, immunology and/or molecular genetics to join the faculty of the David Geffen School of Medicine (DGSOM) and the College of Life Sciences as Chair of the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics (MIMG). As a preeminent researcher, scholar and leader, the candidate will be considered for an Administrative Endowed Chair. The Chair is responsible for advancing the Department's mission of excellence in education at both undergraduate as well as graduate and professional school levels, service and research through the development of educational programs, cross-disciplinary research and innovation, financial management, staffing, performance growth, faculty recruitment and retention, and the strengthening of community partnerships. The Chair will continue the tradition of cultivating a scientifically rigorous as well as highly collegial, inclusive, and multidisciplinary environment consistent with the principles of the DGSOM's Cultural North Star [https://medschool.ucla.edu/cultural-north-star]. The Chair reports to the Dean of the David Geffen School of Medicine, the Dean of the College of Life Sciences, and the Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences. With 33 faculty members, 75 staff members and many trainees at all levels of training, the Department is ranked among the top departments in the country with a total research portfolio of more than $18 million ($11+ million in NIH funding). Its internationally recognized faculty is scientifically diverse, spanning research in virology and viral pathogenesis, immunology, cancer immunology, bacteriology and bacterial pathogenesis, mammalian microbiota, molecular and cellular parasitology, molecular genetics, human gene and cell therapy, stem cell biology, structural biology, and quantitative and computational biology. This wide spectrum of scientific disciplines fosters a dynamic and intellectually stimulating environment, one that both nurtures and rewards creativity and innovation.
