We are hiring three Laboratory Technician 1 positions. We have two full-time permanent position openings and one full-time project opening that is funded through July 31, 2024.
Laboratory Technician 1 at the Public Health Laboratory
In this role, you'll play a vital part in maintaining a safe and efficient laboratory environment. Your responsibilities include decontaminating waste, preparing laboratory materials, and managing inventory to ensure timely access for staff. You will rotate through different units, performing essential tasks with precision and timeliness. As part of the Support Services team, you will collaborate, ensuring high-quality work through peer reviews and contributing to training and oversight. Your role may involve additional responsibilities in guiding and training newer team members and ensuring procedures are followed. Working together, you will ensure tasks are completed effectively and efficiently.
Responsibilities by unit rotation:
Media Prep:
Prepares microbiological media and chemical solutions.
Follows safety protocols and wears appropriate PPE.
Performs required QA/QC tasks, maintenance, and documentation.
Operates laboratory equipment and sterilizes glassware.
Manages LIMS orders data, unit supplies, and stockroom duties.
Stockroom:
Receives, processes, and manages procurement packages and stock inventory.
Performs safety measures, QA/QC tasks, and routine maintenance.
Tracks inbound packages, inspects, and processes orders.
Conducts inventory and manages stock orders.
Ensures proper storage of temperature-sensitive packages.
Dish Room:
Decontaminates lab waste and cleans glassware and supplies.
Follows safety protocols, completes required vaccinations, and wears PPE.
Performs QA/QC tasks, decontamination, and waste disposal.
Operates autoclaves, dishwashers, and drying ovens.
Reports incidents and manages unit supplies.
Glassware Management:
Inspects, prepares, and manages lab glassware and supplies.
Follows safety protocols, QA/QC tasks, and maintenance.
Identifies, prepares, and disposes of lab supplies.
Operates equipment for media preparation and sterilization.
Manages unit supplies and ensures an organized workspace.
Mailroom: Kit Preparation:
Prepares specimen collection kits and lab supply orders.
Follows safety protocols, completes required vaccinations, and wears PPE.
Assembles kits, receives, and fulfills supply orders, and tracks shipments.
Performs mail-related errands, maintains state vehicle, and manages supplies.
Mailroom: Metering Room:
Sorts, prepares, and ships inbound/outbound mail and packages.
Follows safety protocols, QA/QC tasks, and regulations.
Ships packages via various courier services and manages postage.
Prepares reports, maintains supplies, and assists in various administrative tasks.
Required Qualifications: Your experience may have been gained concurrently.
OPTION 1: Two (2) or more years of work experience performing microbiological, chemical, clinical, or public health testing or surveillance.
OPTION 2: One (1) or more years of training in medical technology or education in college with courses in laboratory sciences; and one (1) or more years of work experience performing microbiological, chemical, clinical, or public health testing or surveillance.
OPTION 3: Two (2) or more years of training in medical technology or education in college with courses in laboratory sciences.
In addition to meeting one of the above options you must also haveexperience using MS Excel, Word, and Outlook.
