The Department of Pathology at The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine seeks candidates for an Assistant, Associate or Professor position on either the tenure track or non-tenure clinical track to join an active clinical pathology division. The successful candidate will serve as the laboratory director for the ASHI-accredited histocompatibility laboratory at the Iowa City Veterans Affairs (ICVA) Heath Care System and provide clinical service at the VA as well as the University of Iowa (UI).

The HLA laboratory serves as the UNOS designated laboratory for the ICVA and The University of Iowa solid organ transplant programs which include kidney, pancreas, liver, heart and lung transplants of both pediatric and adult patients. The laboratory supports the active local and National Kidney Registry living donation programs. The laboratory also provides testing for: The University of Iowa adult and pediatric blood and marrow transplant programs; Iowa Donor Network, the state's organ procurement agency; as well as testing for HLA-associated disease risk factors. Opportunities for clinical research related to transplantation and fundamental research in immunology or other areas are available.

The clinical pathology service at UI and ICVA encompasses a broad range of coverage across multiple subspecialty disciplines, including chemistry, toxicology, microbiology, transfusion medicine, hematology, coagulation, molecular pathology and informatics. There are opportunities for development of regional outreach programs and other leadership opportunities within the department and VA system.

Department of Pathology faculty are involved in training house staff in pathology and other inter-disciplinary areas. They also teach students in both lecture and small group formats for the medical school, allied health programs, and graduate school programs. The HLA lab provides training rotations for Heme/Onc fellows, Solid Organ Transplant Fellows, Nephrology trainees, Pulmonary trainees and Blood Bank trainees.

Applications should include a CV, a letter of application containing a statement of career goals, and the names and addresses of three individuals who could provide letters of reference.

Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any misconduct history or pending research misconduct investigation including but not limited to sexual misconduct in prior employment and provide a related release and will be subject to a criminal background and credential check.
