Unit Description:
Dr. Osborn's laboratory employs gene and cellular engineering approaches to treat pediatric transplant and cancer patients. The  lab uses animal models and precision gene targeting to modulate the transcriptional profile of therapeutic cells genes. The work relies on CRISPR/Cas9 base and gene targeting performed in a manner that promotes rapid translational application.


Responsibilities/duties: 
(90%) Cell isolation, culture, engineering and analysis:
     -Whole blood isolation using magnetic columns
     -CRISPR/Cas9 delivery and reagent design and optimization
     -fibroblast culture and isolation of engineered cells
     -molecular analysis (PCR, qRTPCR) of engineered cells
Human cell line culture and engineering with gene editing reagents
Viral vector production

(10%) Data analysis, laboratory notebook, presentation preparation/writing, laboratory safety, and supervising undergraduate aids

All required qualifications must be documented on application materials

Required Qualifications:
BA/BS with a major in biological science or equivalent combination of education and experience to total four years.
The ideal candidate would possess experience on cell culture and nucleic acid cloning and isolation.  Works scope includes experience in cell isolation, culture, and flow and molecular analytic methodologies (ie intracellular FACS staining, PCR, and qRT PCR).
 

Preferred qualifications: 
Team player with the ability to adapt and pursue a course of basic biological research.
