Position Summary

Two NIH-funded postdoctoral positions are available in the laboratory of Dr. Liang Shan in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Washington University School of Medicine. The Shan lab studies innate and adaptive immune response to HIV-1 and other retroviruses. These positions will provide an excellent opportunity for the successful candidates to pursue a career in the field of virology or immunology. 

Ongoing Projects

• Innate sensing of retroviruses.
• The CARD8 inflammasome in HIV pathogenesis.
• Control of HIV-1 infection by NK cells and macrophages.
• HIV-1 reservoirs in CD4+ T cells and macrophages.
• Novel humanized mouse models for HIV infection and immunotherapy.

Required Qualifications

• A PhD degree in microbiology, immunology or related field. 
• Strong written and oral communication skills, as evidenced by peer-reviewed journals. 
• Ability to work independently and communicate with laboratory staff and investigators.

Working Conditions

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Salary Range

Base pay is commensurate with experience.
