Lab Manager for the Human Retrovirology Group within the Department of Cancer Immunology and Virology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Main duties include ordering and restocking shelves with common lab consumables, maintaining equipment and equipment service contracts, maintaining tissue culture lab areas (standard BSL2 tissue culture room and dedicated HIV BSL2+ tissue culture room) and serving as laboratory safety officer.

General Laboratory Operations:
Responsible for overseeing efficient inventory maintenance and supply ordering.
Responsible for shipping out material via FedEx for all labs.
Serves as the primary contact person for the CAMS freezer monitoring system.
Monitors LN2 supply and tank replacement.
Acts as laboratory safety and radiation safety officer for all labs.
Accountable for chemical satellite area (SAA) and maintenance.
Personnel management: responsible for laboratory notebook inventories, mailbox and locker updates; provides operational support for lab desk/workspace for incoming personnel and review of safety offboarding checklists for departing personnel.
Serves as a resource for lab and office computers, peripherals and software. Acts as a liaison for informational services.
Responsible, directly or indirectly, for care, repair and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Oversees operations of tissue culture rooms (maintains water baths and incubators).
Maintains and stocks personal protective equipment (PPE) for HIV tissue culture room.
Interacts with Institute Biosafety Officer to oversee key card access to HIV lab.
Defrosts freezers at regular intervals to maintain peak operation.
Autoclaves inactivated HIV waste for disposal.
Works closely with laboratory PIs to maintain proper lab operations.
Administrative Duties:
Maintain electronic versions of equipment user manuals.
Supervision and annual review of part-time Research operations assistant.
A BS/BA is required.
Experience in management of research laboratory in the field of biological sciences. 3-5 years of research management is preferable. Starting salary is commensurate with years of experience.
Strong knowledge of HR activities and solid writing skills preferred.
Familiarity with virology laboratory operations including equipment maintenance, safety, compliance, and record keeping.
Exceptional people management and organization skills, with demonstrated ability to multi-task to enable many concurrent projects in a complex, fast-paced environment.
Excellent quantitative, analytic, and problem-solving skills to evaluate all aspects of a problem opportunity and make or facilitate appropriate and timely decisions.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability and willingness to work closely with other colleagues as a team; experience and comfort in working with individuals with diverse backgrounds and differing viewpoints; openness to new ideas.
Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
