The Division of Comparative Medicine (DCM) Research Animal Diagnostic Laboratory supports cutting-edge biomedical research at Washington University in St Louis and provides a variety of services, including hematology, clinical chemistry, microbiology, parasitology, gross necropsy, and histopathology for many animal species. The Diagnostic lab also facilitates and coordinates testing of environmental samples, animal samples, and cell lines to detect rodent pathogens and collects samples for rodent genotyping services.Â
This position assists with technical aspects of studies and experiments, including preparation of materials and documentation of results.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist with research studies, experiments, and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment.
Collect samples to support investigator projects and/or the DCM rodent health surveillance program.
Perform data entry, maintain data files, and disseminate data and test results.
Assist with general supply/equipment orders, lab maintenance and cleaning in accordance with established policies and regulations.
Comply with established safety procedures and maintain required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
Ensure lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.
Correctly handle and dispose of hazardous wastes according to standard operating procedures.
Assist with general lab maintenance and cleaning.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards.Â
The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
