Position: Clinical Laboratory Scientist

Department: Laboratory

Shift: Per Diem Days and/or Nights may be required

Shift Differential: Additional compensation for night shift and Per Diem

Job Summary:

• Independently perform clinical laboratory procedures and tests necessary for the diagnosis and treatment of patients as per attending physician's orders.
• Conduct quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy of test systems and results before releasing such results.
• Use and operate a variety of routine and specialized clinical laboratory instruments and equipment for the collection, processing, description, and analysis of specimens.
• Perform preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment.
• Work under broad policies and general objectives, referring specific matters to a supervisor only when interpretation or clarification of policies is necessary.

Essential Skills:

• Knowledge of chemical, bacteriological, serological, parasitological, hematological, microbiological and immunohematology principles, practices, techniques, equipment, and terminology.
• Knowledge of principles and practices of clinical laboratory work.
• Proficiency in the use and care of laboratory equipment.
• Expertise in the preparation, mounting, and staining of specimens.
• Ability to set up and operate laboratory equipment and perform quick and accurate tests and analyses.
• Skilled in performing standardized laboratory tests.
• Accuracy in keeping records.
• Effective oral communication skills.
• Ability to understand and follow written, oral, and diagram instructions.
• Problem-solving skills involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure with time constraints.
• Capacity to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients and colleagues

Education:

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• BS degree in laboratory science.

Experience:

• Three or more years of experience as a clinical laboratory scientist in a hospital setting, preferred.

Licensure / Certifications / Registrations:

• Current valid California state Clinical Laboratory Scientist Generalist license.
• Current BLS Health Care Provider certification.
