Job Summary: | Located within the Clinical Science Center, the McCoy Lab uses collaboration and the unique strengths of our team members to gain pathogenic insights into glandular immunobiology, improving quality of life and developing cures for patients with dryness and autoimmunity. We have a focus on Sjogren's disease, a systemic autoimmune disease that causes severe dryness but also affects other organ systems. This disease has no disease-modifying treatment. We focus on bench-to-bedside to implement our science to improve human health.
We invite applications from researchers with a background in molecular biology, microbiology, systems biology, or related fields. Research includes investigating the trophic effects and immunobiology of mesenchymal stromal cells (with a focus on salivary gland mesenchymal stromal cells) to understand dryness and autoimmunity. Studies will be conducted with cell lines, mouse models, and human samples. We routinely collaborate with other labs and investigators internally and externally. These activities are expected to lead to scholarly work that will be published in scientific journals and presented at national and international meetings.
This position will also identify research problems, design research methodologies, perform research, and prepares and/or present results for presentation to professional organizations or for scholarly publications to help advance research.
The Researcher I will plan and execute experiments, maintain mouse colonies, perform salivary flow measurements, simple animal surgeries, flow cytometry, tissue sectioning and staining, ELISA, qPCR and other common techniques in molecular and cell biology and biochemistry. The Researcher I will have moderate supervision by Dr. McCoy with at least weekly meetings. The Researcher I will supervise trainees including post docs, graduate students and undergraduate students. The Researcher I will perform lab duties and help organize common lab duties for other members.
The Researcher II will plan and execute experiments, maintain mouse colonies, perform salivary flow measurements, simple animal surgeries, flow cytometry, tissue sectioning and staining, ELISA, qPCR and other common techniques in molecular and cell biology and biochemistry. The Researcher II will supervise trainees including post docs, graduate students and undergraduate students. The Researcher II will perform lab duties and help organize common lab duties for other members.
The Researcher III will plan and execute experiments, maintain mouse colonies, perform salivary flow measurements, simple animal surgeries, flow cytometry, tissue sectioning and staining, ELISA, qPCR and other common techniques in molecular and cell biology and biochemistry. The Researcher III will supervise trainees including post docs, graduate students and undergraduate students. The Researcher III will perform lab duties and help organize common lab duties for other members. A Researcher III level position is expected to require no supervision to execute planned experiments. |

Qualifications: | Required: -A minimum of 3 years laboratory experience -Strong mouse handling skills -Excellent working knowledge of basic biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, and computer skills -Experience in troubleshooting assays independently -Experience guiding students and trainees on how to perform and troubleshoot experiments
Preferred: -Experience studying mesenchymal stromal cells -Hands-on bench research experience -Independence with flow cytometry experience -Experience with single cell rna sequencing |
Salary: | Minimum $65,000 ANNUAL (12 months) Depending on Qualifications The anticipated minimum starting salary for the position is $65,000 for hire as Researcher I, $80,000 for Researcher II, or $85,000 for Researcher III. Starting salary is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
