Position Title: Special Professor of Biology

Description:
Hofstra University's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is pleased to invite applications for full-time Special Professor faculty positions (Assistant/Associate) in the Department of Biology to teach introductory cell biology and genetics biology lectures and laboratories and possibly medical microbiology laboratories for the Spring 2025 academic semester. The positions are full-time temporary teaching positions within the Department, not adjunct positions.
The new faculty members will collaborate with other instructors in reviewing, improving, and maintaining the curriculum for these courses and must be available for weekly instructors' meetings. They must provide a minimum of one office hour per week for every three contact hours assigned and be available for students. Teaching load is a minimum of 9 contact hours per semester with the opportunity to teach more. Preferred candidates will have a broad background in biology and experience teaching introductory biology as instructor of record. Microbiology experience preferred. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline of biology or related field. Interested applicants should submit a cover letter with contact information, curriculum vitae, and a statement of teaching experience and interests. Applicants should also identify three references who are prepared to send letters on their behalf. Qualifications:
Ph.D. in biology or closely-related discipline required.
Experience teaching undergraduate biology courses
Successful candidates will have demonstrated a commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in an educational environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior teaching experience as instructor of record for introductory biology lecture and laboratory preferred.
Prior teaching or research experience in microbiology.
Experience or openness to collaborating in a coordinated teaching environment for multiple sections courses.
Prior training in or use of active-learning and student-centered learning techniques
