Job Summary: | The Meat Plant Assistant Operations Manager will assist in managing plant operations, as the Meat Science & Animal Biologics Discovery (MSABD) USDA-inspected plant continues to grow in its research, teaching, extension, and production capacity. This individual will help oversee, lead, and participate in day-to-day operations, company projects, teaching and research projects, and help with extension demonstrations in the plant. They will also provide training for individuals entering the plant, or undergraduates starting as student workers in the facility. They will help with production planning and execution, as well as enforcing food safety practices and plant GMPs. |
Responsibilities: | Provides technical expertise, budget oversight, and/or staff supervision for a client-based research program to advance research. - 15% Assists with the design, monitoring, and execution of project-specific experiments. Identifies and resolves technical issues
- 15% May direct the day-to-day activities of staff and resolve routine personnel issues
- 10% Develops and facilitates research specific presentations to internal and external audiences
- 15% Serves as a subject matter expert and unit liaison. Provides updates on project components and timelines to stakeholders as needed
- 15% Develops operating policies and procedures to comply with regulations, institutional policies, and unit objectives
- 10% Assists with the development and auditing of project-specific budgets
- 10% Helps manage the food safety HACCP Plan for MSABD USDA inspected plant
- 10% Perform microbiological testing of processing plant and products; maintain records of results

Qualifications: | Required -Good organizational, management, and office skills. (Examples may include-Time Management, Communication, Setting Goals, Delegation, Working Under Pressure, Self-motivation, Analytical Thinking, Other relevant examples) -Demonstrated experience handling, compiling, and organizing data in a timeline manner. -Experience with databases and spreadsheets (Examples of tracking information effectively, keeping track of specs and formulations, document creation, general Excel experience.). -Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills.
Preferred -1 year of prior experience working in Animal Science field. -Meat industry experience. |

Additional Information: | Schedule: This position will be scheduled to work 40 hours per week with the intended schedule of Monday through Friday, 7:45am - 4:30pm. Hours will be flexible in order to ensure operational needs are met, and some weekend work may be required.
