Sr Financial Reporting Specialist - Accounts Rep V - Food Science

Under the direction of the Senior Administrative Director with day-to-day direction by the Administrative Director while working in conjunction with Cornell Central Service Center, provide research administration, financial and accounting support to the Department of Food Science). As a provider of financial services to the Department and in conjunction with department Administrative Director make appropriate judgments about financial activities in a manner that coincides with university policies as they relate to account management, grant and contract management, sponsored project accountability, college reporting, accountability for funds management, and backup proposal support. Specifically, within the department assist with the establishment, monitoring, and projection of annual department budgets, establish, monitor and report on unrestricted, gift, and endowment accounts. Provide post-award sponsored research administration including oversight to the set up and close out of accounts salary planning and monitoring of effort distribution, cost share, and subcontracts, compliance with sponsor and university policies, liaison with the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) and Sponsored Financial Services (SFS). Perform financial reporting preparation to support customer needs in making decisions requiring certain criteria. Review financial documents for completeness, accuracy and conformance for internal and/or external regulations. Establish close working relationship(s) with Administrative Director, faculty, and staff. Establish and maintain close working relationships with the CALS BSC. Work within a team environment to provide the most efficient and streamlined processes for the department (s) and the college. Obtain sponsored programs research administration certificate training and stay updated on changes in University policies and procedures as they relate to financial processes. Work in partnership with Graduate Field Assistant (GFA) to track graduate student funding and appointments. In conjunction with department manager and Chairs Assistant, confirm funding source for appointments and extensions of academic, non-academic and temporary staff. Identify and recommend college best practice and processed. Actively pursue continuous learning and specialized training in key functional areas to enhance professional knowledge and skills.
This position is full-time (39 hours / week) and will be located in Ithaca, New York.

Required Qualifications
- Associates degree and 4 to 6 years relevant experience or equivalent combination.
- Accounting experience and/or formal coursework in accounting applications is required. Must be able to understand and accurately apply account numbers, object codes, rules, and policies to transactions and understand impact on financial statements.
- Ability to analyze and develop customized reports.
- Attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills are critical.
- Must use judgement in accomplishing tasks that are urgent or of a sensitive nature while successfully balancing conflicting priorities and maintaining confidentiality.
- Must be able to compile, analyze, and report on complex financial data.
- Must have previous experience in research administration post-award financial management.
- Must have excellent customer service skills and demonstrated ability to communicate and work with a broad range of people. Attention to detail, organizational skills and prioritization skills are required.
- Able to work quickly & effectively under pressure, use judgment in accomplishing tasks that are urgent or of a sensitive or confidential nature; balance conflicting priorities, and make decisions from a range of choices.
- Demonstrates accountability in all work responsibilities.
- Demonstrate a high-level of proficiency with Excel, and experience with other standard office programs.
- Must be comfortable working in an environment where change in process/procedures is the norm.
- Proceed alone on regular tasks, consulting with supervisor on questionable situations.
- Must be able to work independently while supporting the efforts of an overall team.
- Must be able and willing to enhance personal knowledge, skills, and abilities as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- 4+ years concentrated experience in a financial office setting.
- Expertise in Excel, KFS, Workday and OBIEE dashboards.
- Familiarity with Cornell University or other higher education environment.
