Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Post-Doctoral Fellow for NJMS- Medicine. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Post-Doctoral Fellow will conduct genetic, microbiological, biochemical and animal studies to identify compounds that inhibit or kill Mycobacterium tuberculosis and to better understand their targets and mechanisms of action. The Fellow will also investigate the cellular mechanisms of drug synergy in M. tuberculosis.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Cultures pathogenic viruses and quantitates using plaque and TCID 50 assays.
Maintains viral stocks and confirms strain types by sequencing.
Performs viral drug susceptibility tests.
Tests novel viral and bacterial diagnostic assays
Assists in animal infection and treatment studies of both viral and bacterial pathogens
Uses conventional and novel methods including advanced robotics to screen libraries of M. tuberculosis for drug tolerance and drug resistance phenotypes.
Performs MIC testing, kill curves and other microbiological tests to characterize M. tuberculosis and other BSL2 and BSL3 pathogens including select agents.

This position involves prolonged standing, walking and sitting, as well as use of laboratory equipment. Must perform complex procedures and demonstrate manual dexterity. Some stooping, reaching, climbing and bending. Occasional lifting of 20 pounds to a height of 6½ feet. Hearing and speech capabilities necessary to communicate with other researchers and staff in person, on the telephone and by e-mail. Vision capable of viewing gauges, computer monitors, charts, forms, text and numbers for prolonged periods.
WORKENVIRONMENT
Must be available to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays when necessary to meet deadlines. Must be willing to work with small and large animals.
