To support basic and applied research in molecular biology, viral pathogenesis, epidemiology and reverse genetics of rotaviruses and coronaviruses. Will participate in experimental design, conduct research, data interpretation and analysis. Will perform numerous molecular assays (RT-PCR, molecular cloning, RNA/DNA isolation, transfection, sequencing, protein expression and isolation, etc.) and virological (cell culture, viral inoculation, viral dynamics studies, plaque isolation) assays. Will participate in ongoing animal studies using germfree pigs and perform literature searches of relevant topics and procedures, new protocol adaptation/optimization/troubleshooting. Will prepare research reports and summaries, manuscripts, posters and presentations for scientific meetings. Will also assist with training and mentoring of students and other incoming lab personnel.
Required experience - Applicant is required to have a PhD degree in Microbiology or relevant. Applicant must be proficient in using computer programs such as Word, Powerpoint, Excel and Graphic tools. Statistical, Bioinformatics analyses programs.
Desired Experience - Experience in molecular biology, bacterial pathogenesis, molecular microbiology of bacterial pathogens and working with animal models is preferred. Experience in supervision of students and visiting scholars is desirable. Experience with working on animal models, biochemical and histochemical techniques and statistical analysis programs.
