Do you have a passion for teaching and mentoring undergraduate research? Ashland University, a primarily undergraduate institution, seeks applications for an Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) position in the Department of Biology and Toxicology to begin August 2026. Ashland University (AU) is located about an hour from Akron, Cleveland and Columbus. Limited start-up funds for equipment and supplies for new faculty members are available.
The department is well equipped with a 2,500 square foot greenhouse and plant growth chambers as well as dedicated laboratories for tissue culture and microbiology, a vivarium, thermal cyclers including a qPCR thermal cycler, UV/VIS spectrometers, microscopes with phase contrast, Nomarski and fluorescence optics and other equipment. HPLC, GCMS, LCMS, ICP and ion chromatographs as well as Raman spectrometers are available in the Chemistry department. The AU Environmental Science program manages five environmental preserves and faculty are encouraged to engage in field research there. Collaborations with AU faculty and outside faculty are supported.
Primary responsibilities include teaching courses in the Biology major such as Botany and Plant Physiology, along with other courses for Biology majors such as General Biology, Genetics, Evolution or other courses that fall within the candidate's areas of expertise.
The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research program mentoring undergraduate research students as well as engage in service activities.
Required Qualifications:
PhD is required by the position start date in August 2026.
Expertise in Plant Biology, Plant Systematics, Agricultural Sciences, Environmental Science, or a related field, is required.
The candidate should have demonstrated experience in teaching undergraduates.
