Job Description
The Section of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine at the Boston Medical Center and Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine seek faculty at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor of Medicine to lead an independent research program in basic or translational research. Applicants must have an MD, PhD or equivalent degree with essential research experience. MD candidates must have demonstrated excellence in teaching and/or patient care. Areas of research focus include but are not limited to immunology, microbial pathogenesis, virology, the microbiome, and antibiotic resistance. Resources will be provided to facilitate and support the success of the candidate's research program at BMC.


Required Skills
The Section of Infectious Diseases research strengths include HIV pathology; innate and adaptive immunology; bacterial pathogenesis; emerging infections, tuberculosis and global health; epidemiology, health services and outcomes research. Numerous faculty in the section have joint appointments in the BU School of Public Health, the National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratory and/or medical school departments such as Microbiology and Molecular Medicine, through which graduate students are available. Researchers in the ID section participate in the Providence/Boston Center for AIDS Research (CFAR). There are state of the art core research facilities and access to clinical samples. Boston Medical Center Infectious Diseases Section oversees the largest HIV/AIDS program in New England and one of the largest STD practices in Massachusetts, provides diagnostic and clinical care for diseases incurred through international travel and migration, and sees a broad spectrum of infections in patients with opioid-use disorders and with many comorbid and immunocompromising conditions.
