Overview: We are a basic immunology and microbiology laboratory (https://scharschmidtlab.ucsf.edu) studying how commensal microbes interface with the skin immune system in both mice and humans. The individual hired for the available position will become a key member in our group, who will support both aspects of lab management as well as specific ongoing research projects. This individual will be responsible for processing and flow cytometric analysis of human and mouse tissue, mouse husbandry and other animal procedures, cultivation of skin bacteria, genotyping, and assisting post-doctoral fellows and graduate students in the lab in other aspects of their work. Up to 40% of time will be dedicated to general lab support, such as ordering and receiving of supplies etc. The ideal candidate will have completed relevant coursework and/or hands-on research experience in immunology. There is opportunity to eventually drive/direct an independent research project upon demonstration of meeting other requirements of the position.
Required Qualifications: *Specialists appointed at the junior rank must possess a baccalaureate degree (or equivalentdegree) or at least four years of research experience. *Specialists appointed at the Assistant or Associate ranks must possess a master's degree(or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of experience in the relevant specialization. *Candidates must meet all required qualifications at the time of appointment.
