A Laboratory in the Dept. of Pathology, Microbiology, and Immunology seeks to hire a Laboratory Manager for two closely associated laboratories. Must be able to lead in performing administrative, research, and technical duties.
The candidate will supervise laboratory staff, develop lab guidelines, and maintain procedures.
KEY FUNCTIONS:
Work with research staff, students, postdocs to ensure lab procedures are efficient and labs are well supplied and maintained.
Places orders and manages the spending on a portfolio of grants covering multiple projects across two labs.
Manages equipment and service contracts.
Sets up repairs and oversees maintenance on a variety of lab equipment.
Onboards new staff and serve as a point-of-contact manager for lab members
Ensures compliance with biosafety and radioactivity guidelines. Maintains accessible records of lab stocks.
Work with Dept of Animal Care and lab staff to manage mouse colonies, ensure compliance with IACUC policies, maintain breeding of mouse lines, train staff on mouse protocols.
Prepare, assess, and amend IACUC and IRB protocols as projects evolve and train laboratory members accordingly.
Communicate effectively with PI's, administrative staff of the respective departments, and collaborators.
Create and maintain strategies for using funds, actively participate in budget preparation for grants, participate in grant proposal development.
Serve as a resource on experiments, technical issues.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
5+ years of experience as a laboratory technician or manager
Experience leading or managing a team
B.S. or B.A., with M.A. preferred
Knowledge of Vanderbilt University Medical Center procedures and systems preferred
